Channeling: Extraordinary or Everyday?
I became very interested in channeling about 10 years ago. A friend had encouraged me to look into the work of Paul Selig. I initially ignored her, despite multiple prompts to connect with Paul and his Guides through his channeled books. A different friend told me that simply reading Paul’s channeled works could shift my vibration. I was already well on my spiritual path, and I became curious enough to begin to read (and listen to) his works.
The first night I read Paul’s very first channeled book, I Am the Word, I felt my vibration lift so much that I had a hard time getting to sleep. My friend’s advice was to ask the Guides to wait until I fell asleep before starting to “work” on my energy. Somewhat unbelievably, this worked. I read many of Paul’s books, and attended many live workshops; some in New York, where he was living at the time, some in Asheville, and eventually Atlanta. The live, in person energy back in the early days of Paul’s channeling was incredible. Moreover, what I really loved about Paul in those early days was that he was a skeptic himself. He needed persuading to “step into the background” so that the Guides could deliver his messages. I related to this; it helped me to begin to bend my mind around this concept with a healthy dose of skepticism and curiosity. In any case, the frequency and vibration were absolutely tangible, and even more accurately, electric!
Paul describes himself as a conscious channel, someone who is able to remain embodied and conscious during the channeling. This is different from a trance channel, or someone who leaves their body and does not have a memory of what happens when the beings are channeling. I have witnessed both types of channeling live (different channels), and both are powerful.
Back in 2020 during a beach trip, I took an online energy course, part of which held practice times for people to practice channeling “light language”. When walking on the beach, I found that this energy flowed through me quite easily, and I began to work with it personally. I had trained in offering Light Body Activations, and began to incorporate some of the light language channeling in these offerings. Sometimes this language emerges when I’m working with other people in one on one energy sessions, but over the recent years, I have used it mostly as a personal practice, during meditations, etc.
In truth, I had experienced some trauma in spiritual social circles—partially related to channeling—and as a result, I retracted some of my practices, including the light language. I have kept this type of channeling in my personal practices; it simply feels good to let the energy run through me. I also channel in English—I enter this state in my one on one energy sessions: I receive information that can feel like “downloads”; rapidly getting visual and auditory details relevant to the person I’m working with. The information can also bypass the senses and come as fully formed messages—an example of this is when I begin talking about something that requires no thought; it simply comes through me without interpretation. In April of 2026, I was guided to begin to offer channeling on a weekly basis, and these audio recordings are currently live on my website. I have strict parameters of the beings that I work with; higher dimensional light beings are my preference, at mastery level (angels, interdimensionals) who have my best interest and the recipients’ best interest at their essence. This is my personal history with channeling beings.
But, let’s backtrack a bit: what is channeling? I believe that channeling is not strictly reserved for the practices I have detailed above (beings or your higher self working through you to deliver a message—for which training or guidance is highly recommended)—but that it is also entering a flow state to express oneself, or, create. This can look like art (painting, sculpting, dance, writing, gardening, acting, etc), but it can also look like anything where passion is expressed authentically—and in my opinion can include giving others inspired advice. Have you ever, for example, given someone words of wisdom that seemed to come out of nowhere?
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wrote an incredible book called “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience” that was assigned by a professor during my occupational therapy degree. This book was life changing for me. In recent years, I have come to believe that when we enter this energizing, creative flow state—whether it be through dance, writing, art, teaching, or any other creative pursuit—is when we are connected to the universal field, and are channeling life force energy. I regularly recommend to my clients to find practices which help them enter this state, as I view it as connecting to Source. I believe that being in flow, or, channeling, allows us to commune with a force that is far greater than us: the universal field of energy.
To take this concept of channeling through being in a flow state a step further, let’s examine the book “The Creative Act: A Way of Being” by Rick Rubin. This book opens up the idea that as creators (as we can ALL claim to be), we should not be creating for others, but for ourselves. When we begin to shape offerings, or, creations, into what we think others will want, the power of the thing we are creating is diminished. This is something that I continue to work on and with. I have absolutely no shortage of ideas. This can work for me and against me as an entrepreneur. I have to really pause and think about what 'I’m offering, especially in the energetic spaces. Will people get it? Does it matter if they do? I have put things out there and have really gone way outside of my comfort zone time and time again. Sometimes it is received, and other times not. One of the biggest takeaways from this practice for me is to do my best to remain authentic. People may get it or not. It may be well attended, or not. But importantly, birthing creations, regardless of how they are received, is a life giving act.
So, if you are interested in cultivating a channeling practice, I would recommend the following:
Begin a simple meditation practice daily. This helps to calm the mind, and for you to begin to get in touch with your higher self. This also helps to sharpen the mind and to strengthen the connection from the prefrontal cortex to the amygdala, which translates to being able to get to a calm state more easily when you are upset, or, “activated”.
Practice automatic writing. Ideally, after a meditative state, simply ask “What does my higher self/highest guides/ancestors/love want me to know today?” and begin to write, without too much thought. For no-one but yourself. See what begins to emerge….
Get yourself into a flow state as much as possible. This can be literally anything that feels right: art, dance, movement, training for something, crafting, writing, cooking, gardening…literally whatever floats your boat.
Explore other channels. I am drawn to Paul Selig, Lee Harris, David Clements, and Ann Tucker. I trust the information that I receive from these channels—and resonate the most with them.
